Colorless rhombohedral or flaky crystals. Deliquescent, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, will decompose when heated or in hot water. It can corrode glass and is poisonous.



[Uses] 
It is used as etching agent for engraved glass, antiseptic agent and disinfectant, solvent in producing metal beryllium using beryllium oxide, analytic reagent and surface treating agent of silicon steel plate; also used as oxidant in producing ceramic and aluminum-magnesium alloy, cleaning agent in steam generation system of boiler's water supply system, fluorizating agent in organic synthesis, reagent in extracting rare element from electroplating solution.
